Driving Test Earlier is an independent guide to getting a UK driving test sooner: how cancellation slots work, what the checker apps really do, and the booking rules that decide whether you keep your fee.

Why it exists

The rules changed hard in 2025. Notice periods tripled, car tests went from 6 changes to 2, and a wave of scam “cancellation finders” grew up around a 20-week waiting list. Most of what ranks in search still describes the old system, or is written by a checker service selling its own product. There was room for a site with no product, current rules, and sources on every page.

What we do

• Explain the DVSA booking, change and refund rules, checked against GOV.UK and dated. The method is on how we check our facts.
• Track the DVSA’s monthly waiting time statistics on driving test waiting times.
• Describe the checker app market factually, including DVSA’s own guidance on the risks, without scoring or promoting any service.

What we don’t do

We are not affiliated with the DVSA or GOV.UK. We do not sell test slots, run a checker, or take payment from any service we describe. Booking and changing tests happens in one place only: GOV.UK, free.
